WHO WE ARE
At Fontaine Modification, we do more than modify trucks—we engineer and build solutions that help customers get the most out of their equipment. We bridge the gap between OEM truck manufacturing and the specialized needs of commercial fleets, vocational applications, and demanding work environments.
As part of the Marmon Group, a Berkshire Hathaway company, Fontaine combines decades of industry experience with a commitment to quality, innovation, customer responsiveness, and superior workmanship.
We are looking for skilled, motivated Welders / Fabricators to join our Charlotte team. If you take pride in your craft, enjoy solving hands-on challenges, and want to see the direct impact of your work, this is an opportunity to put your skills to work building solutions that move the heavy truck industry forward.
THE OPPORTUNITY
As a Welder / Fabricator, you will play a hands-on role in modifying heavy-duty trucks and fabricating components to meet customer specifications, engineering requirements, and Fontaine's quality standards.
This is a position for someone who understands that great fabrication requires more than striking an arc. It takes precision, sound judgment, attention to detail, safe work habits, and the ability to turn drawings, instructions, and production requirements into quality workmanship.
You will work alongside experienced technicians, production team members, and leadership to deliver modifications that meet demanding standards for fit, function, durability, and appearance.
At Fontaine, we want people who take ownership, think ahead, work safely, and take pride in delivering quality the first time.
The best people in this role do more than meet the minimum requirements. They bring a mindset of craftsmanship, ownership, and continuous improvement to every assignment.
Safety First: You recognize hazards, follow procedures, and never sacrifice safety to save time.
Quality Without Compromise: You understand that a weld or fabricated component can affect the safety, durability, and performance of the finished truck.
Attention to Detail: You measure carefully, prepare properly, and verify your work.
Problem-Solving: You identify issues early, ask the right questions, and help prevent repeat problems.
Accountability: You own your work, communicate openly, and follow through on commitments.
Teamwork: You support your coworkers, share knowledge, and contribute to the success of the entire operation.
Continuous Improvement: You look for better, safer, and more efficient ways to work without compromising quality.
Professional Pride: You treat every assignment as a reflection of your skills and the Fontaine name.
HOW SUCCESS IS MEASURED
Consistent compliance with safety and hot-work requirements.
Weld and fabrication quality that meets established specifications.
Accurate measurements, proper fit-up, and reduced rework.
Reliable completion of assigned work within production expectations.
Effective use and care of tools and equipment.
Strong communication and teamwork.
Active participation in safety, housekeeping, and continuous improvement.
Dependable attendance and consistent follow-through.
PHYSICAL & WORKING ENVIRONMENT
This position works in an industrial truck modification and manufacturing environment with exposure to welding operations, metal fabrication, moving equipment, noise, heat, sparks, fumes, and other shop-related hazards.
The role may require prolonged standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, working in confined or elevated positions when authorized, and handling materials or components of varying sizes and weights.
Employees must use required personal protective equipment, follow established safe-work practices, and meet the essential physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
WHY JOIN FONTAINE MODIFICATION?
Meaningful, hands-on work: See the results of your craftsmanship in the trucks and components you help build.
A specialized industry: Develop your skills in the heavy-duty truck modification and manufacturing sector.
