The School of Humanities and Sciences (H&S) is the foundation of a liberal arts education at Stanford. The school encompasses 24 departments and 25 interdisciplinary programs. H&S is home to fundamental and applied research, where free, open, and critical inquiry is pursued across disciplines. As the university’s largest school, H&S serves as the foundation of a Stanford undergraduate education no matter which discipline students pursue as a major.
Graduate students work alongside world-renowned faculty to pursue and shape foundational research that leads to breakthroughs and discoveries that shed new light on the past, influence the present, and shape the future. Together, faculty and students in H&S engage in inspirational teaching, learning, and research every day.

The program’s mission is to provide students with an analytical and quantitative foundation for tackling data driven problems in science, industry, and society. The Program in Data Science seeks a Student Services Specialist (SSS) to provide administrative and operational support to faculty and students on issues regarding major/minor advising, academic services, and registrar services. This is a unique and exciting opportunity to work in a new and rapidly growing undergraduate major. The SSS is a key member of the administrative team, supporting approximately 250+ undergraduate majors and minors.

The SSS advises current and prospective minors and majors on degree requirements, planning their program of study, and appropriate course substitutions.
The SSS maintains academic records and monitors degree progress, which includes student fulfillment of major requirements, and provides approval recommendations to the faculty Co-Directors for graduating seniors.
The SSS will work with the DS program faculty and staff on the development of new processes and policies to manage the program more effectively. This includes, but is not limited to, providing suggestions on procedural changes, academic requirements, and curriculum updates. The role supports the scheduling of undergraduate courses in statistics and data science.
You will also assist the SSO with hiring, training, and guiding part-time student workers (Peer Advisors) who will assist with advising, degree progress, and event coordination.
