Amazon's network carries traffic for hundreds of millions of customers, and the Network Monitoring and Remediation (NMR) team keeps it healthy. As a Software Development Engineer II on NMR, you will build streaming data pipelines, automated remediation services, and diagnostic tooling that detect and resolve network impairments before customers ever notice. You will work across the full software development lifecycle, turning ambiguous problems into well-designed, maintainable solutions.
If you are a collaborative engineer who enjoys solving hard distributed-systems problems and mentoring teammates along the way, this is a role where your code has real, measurable impact every single day.
Key job responsibilities
Design and build streaming data pipelines that ingest network telemetry at scale, and develop the automated remediation services that act on those signals in real time.
Create and improve diagnostic tooling that helps network operators quickly identify and resolve the issues automation has not yet addressed.
Participate actively in code reviews, provide constructive feedback to teammates, and mentor other engineers on writing well-documented, reliable software.
Collaborate with network engineers, data scientists, and product partners to translate operational needs into clear system designs and working solutions.
Identify root causes of operational issues, drive improvements to your team's technical processes, and evaluate new tools and approaches, including generative AI, to raise productivity and code quality.
Network Monitoring and Remediation (NMR) prevents, predicts, detects, and remediates network impairments before they reach customers. Our systems ingest trillions of telemetry data points daily from millions of network devices, apply streaming analytics and ML/AI to surface actionable signals, and drive automated mitigation through our event management platform. Today, over 98% of detected issues are resolved without human intervention.
Our vision is a future where every network failure is pre-emptively resolved by autonomous systems, with zero customer impact.
1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using: C#, C++, Java, or Perl experience
The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
